Town Plan

This document presents the Town of Canaan’s adopted 2025 Town Plan, a comprehensive and forward-looking guide that outlines the community’s vision, priorities, and goals for the years ahead. Developed through collaboration between local officials, regional planning partners, and community members, the plan reflects both the values of Canaan’s residents and the realities facing a rural border community in today’s environment.

Serving as a non-regulatory planning tool, the Town Plan helps guide decision-making on important matters such as land use, housing, economic development, infrastructure, natural resources, and community facilities. It establishes a clear framework for future investments, supports eligibility for grant funding, and provides direction for municipal boards and committees as they work to implement projects and policies that benefit the town.

At its core, the plan is both practical and aspirational—identifying priority actions, long-term strategies, and opportunities for growth and resilience while preserving the character, independence, and strong sense of community that define the Town of Canaan.
